1. What a 12V Fridge Needs Electrically
⚡ Stable 12–14V supply
12V fridges are very sensitive to voltage drop. They typically require:
10.4–11.8V minimum under load, depending on the brand
If voltage drops too low, they stop working or show error codes
🔋 Reliable power delivery
Typical consumption:
Start-up surge: 5–10A for a split second
Running draw: 3–5A
Daily consumption: 25–60Ah depending on ambient temp
📏 Correct cable gauge
Most manufacturers recommend 6 mm² cable as the minimum — regardless of run length.
Longer runs may require 10 mm², but please be aware that if using anything over 6mm cable, you may struggle to find spade connectors to fit your cable. Try to keep cable runs as short as possibly to minimise this risk.
Also, please remove the short test cables (usually around 2.5mm2 gauge and less than a metre long) and connect your 6mm cable directly to the spade connectors on the rear of your fridge.
